If you are selected for Chamber Singers, you will be involved on the ground floor planning of our 2009 tour of the People's Republic of China (venues include: Hong Kong, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xian, Dalian, and Beijing).

What your audition will look like:

  • A bit of solo work (maximum of 32 measures), your choice. Bring music for the accompanist.
  • Sight-singing
  • A musical excerpt chosen by the Director from either The Silver Swan or a segment of Handel's Messiah

It is important for singers to be able to sight-sing, and/or learn their part quickly (whether by ear, using piano, or working with mp3 files). It is also very important to be able to demonstrate your ability to recognize varying styles and be able to adapt your singing, accordingly.

To learn both The Silver Swan and The Messiah you may download the musical excerpts (PDF files or jpgs) and accompanying mp3s. Be able to sing your voice part of The Silver Swan from the beginning through pg 70, stopping with the cadence on the word "more" (bottom line, second measure, first note). Also, be able to sing "Let us break their bonds asunder" from The Messiah through to letter "B" in the middle of pg 163. The director will choose at the time of your audition which you will sing.
